FAQs
1. What features should I look for in race driving shoes?
In racing, you only have a few points of direct and constant contact between yourself and your machine: the steering wheel, the seat, and the pedals. With each, you want to increase the amount of feedback you get as best as possible while also being comfortable.
When choosing race driving shoes, areas to focus on are closure system (laces, straps, velcro), ankle support, breathability and sole height. We typically recommend a thinner sole to really maximize pedal feel, all else being equal.
2. Are race driving shoes fire-resistant?
Yes, nearly all race driving shoes are made with fire-resistant materials such as Nomex or suede, some with fire-resistant treatment to make extra sure that you’re safe in the event of a worst case scenario.
3. Why do I need race driving shoes?
All shoes have a goal in mind, and are made with that sole (pun intended) purpose. Racing shoes are no different! Racing shoes are built for maximum traction, pedal feel, breathability, fire resistance and comfort during long stints in the car. You’d be surprised just how much of a difference ankle support makes compared to sneakers, too!
4. How do I choose the right size race driving shoes?
To find the right size, measure your feet and refer to the manufacturer's sizing chart, same as if you were buying a new pair of sneakers. Although driving shoes’ purpose is different, the sizing process is the same.
5. How should I care for my race driving shoes?
Again, same as most shoes. Try not to throw them in the washing machine and dryer; rather, hand wash them with warm, soapy water and allow them to air dry.
